Winning €1m ticket pulled from 6 tonnes of Italian rubbish
A winning €1 million lottery ticket mistakenly thrown away in Bitonto, Italy, was recovered intact after a two-day search through six tonnes of rubbish, according to Euronews. The winner discarded it at a tobacconist after a terminal marked it “not payable,” a standard label for large prizes.
A relative later recognized the winning numbers, prompting a rushed recovery effort. Waste company Sanb intercepted the collection truck before compacting and isolated it under armed guard. Workers found the ticket intact around 5:30am. The winner will cover recovery costs under a prior agreement.
