Woman, 37, found guilty after pretending to be 12-year-old girl for years
A 37-year-old Brazilian woman has been convicted of fraud and false identity after pretending to be a 12-year-old girl and living with a foster family for 14 months.
According to the New York Post, Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira claimed she had fled abuse and used a false identity and childlike voice. Authorities said she had posed as a child for about 15 years.
Oliveira was sentenced to one year, six months and 10 days in prison, plus four months and 18 days of detention. Her lawyer said she plans to appeal. She said she never intended to hurt anyone.
