World’s highest paid leader set to get $1m salary increase
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s annual salary will rise by more than 60 per cent to S$3.6 million ($2.8 million) under a new pay package for political office holders.
According to the BBC, Wong, currently the world’s highest-paid political leader, said the increase was necessary to attract capable talent into government.
He said he would donate the additional S$1.4 million from his pay increase to charity over five years. Ministers’ base salaries will also rise from about S$1.1 million to S$1.2 million, with performance-related increases potentially taking their earnings to about S$1.35 million by the end of the government’s term.
