Xabi Alonso urges patience over Estevao as Chelsea wonderkid struggles for minutes
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has urged patience over Estevao’s development after the Brazilian teenager remained an unused substitute in the Blues’ Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.
According to GOAL, Chelsea were eliminated following a 1-1 draw and subsequent penalty shoot-out loss at Anfield, despite Alonso making several changes to his starting line-up.
The Spaniard attributed Estevao’s limited opportunities to the physical demands of English football, while insisting the 19-year-old would eventually feature more regularly.
“I understand his situation and that he could be happier for sure,” Alonso said. “Every player wants to play, wants to be part of the team.” He added: “Trust me, I’m sure the season is going to be long and Este is going to play his role.”
Estevao has yet to make a Premier League start since joining Chelsea from Palmeiras in July 2025. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering a January move for the forward as they seek reinforcements amid injuries to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele.
