Xavi criticised after Netherlands struggle against Greece
Xavi has come under criticism following the Netherlands’ difficult 2-2 draw with Greece, with journalist Valentijn Driessen questioning the coach’s team selection and tactics. According to GOAL, Driessen blamed Xavi partly for the Netherlands’ poor first-half display, particularly his decision to start Quinten Timber and Guus Til in midfield.
Greece led 2-0 before Xavi made three substitutions, bringing Tijjani Reijnders and Ryan Gravenberch into midfield as the Dutch recovered. Ryan Reijnders scored an 89th-minute equaliser to preserve Xavi’s unbeaten start, which now includes one win and two draws. Driessen also highlighted the Netherlands’ defensive problems in 2026.
