983 candidates fail Nigerian Law School bar final resit exam

The Council of Legal Education has revealed that 983 candidates — representing 54.7 per cent — failed the May 2026 Bar Final Resit Examination, with only 885 recording outright passes out of 1,955 candidates who sat the paper.

The Punch reports that the results, approved at the council’s Third Quarter Hybrid Meeting on August 13, 2026, and disclosed in a public notice signed by Secretary and Director of Administration Aderonke O. Osho, showed an overall pass rate of just 45.3 per cent. An additional 55 candidates obtained conditional passes, 32 were absent and 19 had their results withheld.

The Council separately released a list of 122 universities approved to offer Law in Nigeria as of August 2026.
