Tinubu orders EFCC to immediately unfreeze Osun accounts
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to immediately seek a court order vacating the freeze on Osun State Government accounts, saying the timing of the action — days before the August 15 governorship election — was inappropriate and risked creating the impression of federal interference in the electoral process.
In a statement by spokesman Bayo Onanuga, reported by Vanguard, Tinubu said he was “compelled to intervene in the matter in the overriding public interest to preserve confidence in the integrity, credibility and fairness of the democratic process.”
The President maintained he had no prior knowledge of the freeze and reaffirmed his commitment to allowing anti-corruption agencies to operate independently — but said election proximity made the timing untenable.
