Ghana court jails two Nigerians 40 years for trafficking compatriots into cybercrime slavery
Two Nigerians, Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, have been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment each by Ghana’s Circuit Court ‘B’ in Tema for trafficking 11 fellow Nigerians into the country under the pretence of employment before forcing them into cybercrime.
As reported by The Punch, citing a Ghana Police Service statement, the victims were lured from Nigeria, had their phones and identity cards confiscated upon arrival and were compelled to commit internet fraud using provided laptops. Those who refused were beaten with laptop cables and machetes.
Police rescued the malnourished victims during an August 2023 raid at Sebrepor, Tema, recovering 16 laptops and an iPad. The suspects were convicted on charges of conspiracy, human trafficking and causing harm.
