FG, Lagos govt launch joint strategy to tackle flooding, drainage issues
The Federal Government and Lagos State have unveiled a joint strategy to strengthen flood control and water infrastructure across the state.
According to The Guardian, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev, during an inspection of drainage systems and flood-affected areas, said the initiative was part of a nationwide assessment covering all 36 states and the FCT.
He identified indiscriminate waste disposal into drainage channels as a major flooding cause, while NIHSA’s Director-General warned the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook predicts above-normal rainfall nationwide.
