FIFA president faces growing rebellion: 13 countries withdraw support ahead of March 2027 election (FULL LIST)
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing mounting opposition to his re-election bid ahead of the March 2027 vote, with 13 nations — predominantly European — withdrawing support following controversy over his shelved FIFA Forward Enterprise plan to invite private investment into the World Cup.
As reported by PUNCH Online, nations publicly opposing Infantino include England, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Croatia, Sweden, Greece, Albania, Serbia, Wales, Finland and Jordan — the only non-European country on the list.
Jordan’s football federation chief Prince Ali bin Al Hussein accused FIFA’s leadership of blackmail, claiming funds owed to Jordan for reaching the FIFA Arab Cup final were withheld pending support for Infantino — allegations FIFA has not publicly addressed.
While UEFA has criticised Infantino, the African football confederation has backed him. No challenger has yet formally declared, with the nomination deadline set for November 18. Each of FIFA’s 211 member associations holds one equal vote.
