Osun election: Thugs, fake soldiers, internet sabotage fears rock state

Share:

Tension is mounting across Osun State less than 48 hours before Saturday’s governorship election, with the APC and Accord Party campaign councils trading fresh allegations of fake security personnel deployment and a plot to disrupt internet connectivity on election day.

As reported by Daily Trust, APC’s campaign council alleged the state government was harbouring individuals masquerading as soldiers and police officers, calling on security agencies to investigate. Accord’s Imole Campaign Council countered with warnings that political actors were allegedly colluding with telecoms providers to slow internet services — potentially disrupting the BVAS voter accreditation system.

Correspondents observed heavy security deployments across Osogbo alongside armed youths driving through parts of the capital. Fifteen parties are contesting, with incumbent Adeleke on Accord and APC’s Oyebamiji as the major contenders. Several individuals have already been arrested over alleged electoral offences since campaigns began.
