NAFDAC’s sachet alcohol crackdown sparks outcry among retailers
Thousands of FMCG retailers across Nigeria are groaning over NAFDAC’s enforcement of the sachet alcohol ban below 20cl, according to a report by Nairametrics.
During a protest in Ibadan, traders under the Concerned Drink Sellers, Distributors and Traders Across Nigeria said stock seizures have cut off their primary income, leaving many jobless and struggling to repay bank loans.
While denying selling alcohol to minors, retailers appealed to President Bola Tinubu and NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, for intervention. NAFDAC’s Isaac Kolawole said the agency was performing its regulatory duty but promised to relay their concerns.
