Messi fined after slapping MLS rival
Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has been fined by Major League Soccer (MLS) after slapping Philadelphia Union midfielder Quinn Sullivan during their 2-2 draw on Wednesday.
The incident occurred late in the match after Messi accused Sullivan of elbowing him following a challenge. According to The Whistler, MLS confirmed the fine but did not disclose the amount.
Miami defender Ian Fray was also fined for grabbing Sullivan’s neck during another confrontation.
Messi, who scored Miami’s second goal, returned to action after attending his father’s funeral in Argentina. Sullivan’s one-match suspension was later rescinded following a review.
