Jean-Philippe Mateta takes Crystal Palace contract dispute to FIFA
Jean-Philippe Mateta has challenged the validity of the final year of his Crystal Palace contract and taken the dispute to FIFA, according to BBC Sport. The France international’s current deal is due to expire in June 2027 after Palace activated a 12-month extension in 2024.
Mateta argues the optional year should be declared void, although an independent Premier League tribunal reportedly found the contract binding. FIFA has since ruled that overturning the agreement falls outside its jurisdiction. Mateta, who has scored 67 goals for Palace, played a key role in their FA Cup and Conference League successes.
