Algeria severs diplomatic ties with UAE
Algeria has announced its decision to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing Abu Dhabi of a series of “provocative or hostile” actions despite repeated warnings. According to Al Jazeera, Algeria’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that it had exhausted all efforts to preserve bilateral relations. The Emirati ambassador was summoned and given 48 hours to comply with the decision.
Algeria also announced plans to close its airspace to UAE-registered civilian and military aircraft from Friday, although UAE commercial flights will be exempt until the end of 2026.
The UAE expressed hope that the diplomatic rupture would be temporary, stressing its continued appreciation for the Algerian people and bilateral ties.
