Ilhan Omar’s sister misses book tour event following federal raid on congresswoman’s home
Sahra Noor, the elder sister of United States Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, has missed a scheduled book tour event in Minnesota amid a federal investigation involving the lawmaker.
According to Fox News, Noor was expected at the University of Minnesota Rochester on Thursday to promote her memoir, Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story.
However, reporters who visited the venue found it empty, with no prior cancellation notice.
Noor was reportedly subpoenaed in connection with an investigation into Omar’s immigration documentation.
The development followed Monday’s raid on Omar’s Washington residence by Homeland Security Investigations agents examining allegations of immigration fraud.
Federal authorities reportedly seized the congresswoman’s passport, telephone and computers during the operation.
Omar condemned the raid as an “outrageous abuse of power” and an “unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.”
Neither Noor nor the event organisers responded to requests for comment.
No charges against Noor were reported.
