Fresh speculation has emerged about North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s health following unverified claims that he suffered a brain haemorrhage and was taken to China for emergency treatment.

According to The Sun, social media users claimed Kim had fallen into a coma and was receiving treatment at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing. However, neither North Korean nor Chinese authorities have officially confirmed the reports.

Kim was last publicly seen on October 11, when he reportedly visited a defence museum in Pyongyang, according to the publication.

North Korea analyst Benedict Rogers said previous rumours about the leader’s health had circulated without confirmation.

“There have been rumours before of his death. He doesn’t look a well man, he’s extremely overweight,” Rogers told From The Newsroom, The Sun’s YouTube channel.

He added that authorities might release evidence of Kim’s wellbeing if he remained alive.

The latest speculation has also revived questions about succession, with Kim’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, considered a potential interim leader, while his daughter, Kim Ju-ae, has increasingly appeared at official events.

The claims remain unverified, and Kim’s current health status is unknown.
