Uganda rejects claims of being source of Nigeria’s imported Ebola case
Uganda has denied suggestions that a Nigerian woman diagnosed with Ebola contracted the virus within its territory, insisting that investigations into the source of infection remain ongoing.
According to Nairametrics, Uganda’s Ministry of Health clarified its position in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
“Travel through Uganda does not establish that infection occurred here. The location of exposure remains under investigation,” the ministry stated.
The patient reportedly travelled to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo for business before passing through Uganda without symptoms.
“We wish to clarify that, as at the time of this statement, Uganda has NO confirmed active Ebola cases,” the ministry added.
Uganda said it was awaiting further information from Nigerian authorities to assist investigations and contact tracing.
Meanwhile, Nigeria confirmed the imported Bundibugyo Ebola case in Abuja on October 20.
The patient is receiving treatment in isolation, while health authorities have identified 44 contacts.
Uganda also announced plans to strengthen border screening and public health surveillance nationwide.
