Trump Jr. breaks with father over Iran war

Donald Trump Jr. has privately opposed his father’s war with Iran, exposing divisions within President Donald Trump’s political movement over US military involvement in the Middle East.

According to The Atlantic, two people who have spoken directly with Trump Jr. said he opposed the conflict from its beginning and communicated his concerns to the president.

Trump Jr., who has long expressed scepticism about foreign intervention, had previously supported his father’s promise to keep the United States out of another major Middle Eastern war.

“Don has kept his views on the subject private, as he would never publicly break with his dad on an issue like this, but I can’t imagine anyone who knows Don would be surprised by his personal views on the subject,” a person close to him told the publication.

The conflict has intensified divisions within the MAGA movement between non-interventionists and those supporting a more aggressive US foreign policy.

The report also cited a Pew Research Center survey in which 65 per cent of Americans disapproved of Trump’s handling of the Iran operation, raising concerns for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
