What’s going on at the NFF? FIFA steps in with normalization committee
FIFA approves normalisation committee for NFF pending fresh elections
FIFA has approved a Normalisation Committee to manage the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) until fresh elections into its Executive Committee, according to Channels Television.
The NFF announced the decision in a statement citing a letter from FIFA Secretary-General Mattias Grafström to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme. The committee will have a suitable number of members, jointly appointed by FIFA and the Confederation of African Football as soon as possible. Its tenure ends when its tasks are complete, and no later than May 31, 2027. None of its members can contest any position in the forthcoming NFF elections.
Until the committee is named, the NFF Secretariat will keep handling day-to-day operations.
What’s going on at the NFF?
In August, former NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the Executive Committee resigned. The National Sports Commission then approved Ikpeme as interim General Secretary and Ademola Olajire as interim Deputy General Secretary, and suspended the planned elective congress pending reforms.
President Bola Tinubu also directed a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football, with the commission tasked to work with the NFF and engage FIFA and CAF.
