VIDEO: Security operatives block Abuja City Gate ahead of Obi-Kwankwaso mega rally

Security operatives have deployed heavily around Abuja City Gate ahead of a planned mega rally by supporters of Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to TheCable, armed personnel and security vehicles were stationed around the landmark on Saturday, restricting access to the proposed gathering point.

The deployment involved police, soldiers, Department of State Services operatives and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel.

The rally, organised by supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates, was scheduled to begin at 8am.

A mobilisation official, Saint Samson, alleged that security personnel prevented supporters from assembling at Unity Fountain.

“We got to Unity Fountain, but there was a security presence when we arrived, and some of our members were repelled from converging. We have decided to move to another location,” Samson said.

He maintained that the gathering was peaceful and intended to mobilise electoral support.

Organisers subsequently began regrouping at another location.
