Ogun govt awards ₦10.96bn vehicle contract as health workers protest unpaid allowances
The Ogun State Government has awarded a ₦10.964 billion contract for vehicles for senior officials and government agencies amid complaints of unpaid allowances and poor working conditions among healthcare workers.
According to SaharaReporters, procurement records show that MUJAF Automobile Nigeria Limited secured the contract through a sole-bid process in February 2026.
The development comes months after resident doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, embarked on a warning strike over unpaid allowances, manpower shortages and deteriorating working conditions.
The state’s second-quarter budget report also revealed significant underutilisation of healthcare allocations.
Of ₦47.208 billion budgeted for Hope-Healthcare projects, only ₦1.009 billion, representing 2.14 percent, had reportedly been spent by June.
The report described the performance as “not impressive”.
Meanwhile, projects involving ambulances, healthcare centres and medical infrastructure recorded zero expenditure during the period.
The government attributed the low implementation rate to difficulties accessing allocated funds, expressing optimism about improved performance.
