Tinubu: Nigeria will not become a hub for Yahoo Boys targeting foreigners

President Bola Tinubu has said his administration is determined to fight internet and cybercrimes, warning that Nigeria would not be a haven for Yahoo Boys targeting Americans and other foreign nationals, Gazette NGR reports.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday, Tinubu lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its role in the August 2026 extradition of two Lagos Yahoo Boys, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale. The commendation followed the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s praise of the anti-graft agency.

“Nigeria must never become a haven for criminals who exploit innocent people, whether at home or abroad. Our law enforcement and anti-corruption institutions have my full support to pursue offenders and bring them to justice in accordance with the law,” Tinubu said.

He described the arrest and extradition as evidence of his administration’s commitment to strengthening financial integrity, restoring international confidence and creating a secure environment for legitimate businesses and investment. “Our fight against corruption is not measured by publicity but by results,” he added, commending the EFCC Chairman and his team for their professionalism and dedication.

Last Sunday, the FBI announced the arrest of nine Nigerians in a global crackdown on fraudsters. FBI Director Kash Patel said the operation, code-named Operation Blackout, led to nine arrests, the seizure of 53 electronic devices and the identification of $11 million in potentially freezable funds across multiple countries.

With the presidency now publicly backing the EFCC, the message to cybercriminals is clear: Nigeria is closing its doors to them.
