Palace must address Thomas Markle scandal and questions over timeline — Robert Jobson
Buckingham Palace is facing scrutiny over the timeline of allegations against Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, royal commentator Robert Jobson writes in the Daily Mail.
London’s Metropolitan Police has confirmed it received a letter in January 2019 containing claims of alleged offending by Markle outside the UK.
The force said it passed the letter to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex but did not share it with overseas law enforcement agencies.
Meghan first said she learned of the allegations in 2018. Her spokesperson later said the police record should be treated as accurate.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation into how the Met handled the letter.
Markle, 82, is under investigation in the Philippines over suspected child sexual abuse images reportedly found at his former home. He has admitted paying for sex there but denies ever possessing such material.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
