Gunmen abduct two blind victims, demand N50m ransom
Gunmen have abducted two visually impaired persons in Riyom LGA of Plateau State while they were returning from Benue State, and are demanding a N50 million ransom for their release.
Gunmen have abducted two visually impaired persons in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State and are demanding a N50 million ransom, according to officials of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD).
The victims were among nine people travelling in a vehicle on Monday around 8pm when it came under attack. Seven escaped, leaving a man and a woman in the kidnappers’ custody.
JONAPWD Plateau chairman Shindol Aaron said the group had been selected for a training in Benue State but was told en route that the event had been postponed. “So, it was on their way back to Jos that they encountered some kidnappers who abducted them,” he said.
“We have reported the incident to the security agents, and we are trying to see how they could be released,” Aaron added. The driver also reported to the police.
Another member, Ishaya Ayuba Danjatau, said: “The kidnappers have reached out, and they are demanding N50 million before they can free the two persons in their custody. Where do they want us to get the money from?”
Plateau Police spokesman DSP Alabo Alfred could not be reached for comment.
