Bruno Fernandes denies being dropped for criticising Carrick after Man United’s comeback win
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has denied being dropped by Michael Carrick for publicly criticising the manager, insisting his omission against Bournemouth was based on poor performances.
Fernandes made the clarification after starring in United’s dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, where he scored and earned Man of the Match honours.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, as reported by the Daily Mail, the Portuguese midfielder admitted that speculation surrounding his relationship with Carrick had been excessive.’A lot of lies around many things that have happened at this club, between me and the manager, like that we have cleared the air. Nothing like that happened.’The manager took a decision of making myself on the bench because I wasn’t performing. And that’s fair.’Fernandes also defended Carrick, adding: ‘It doesn’t change the belief I have in the manager, the staff and every player at this club.’He further insisted: ‘We don’t need to save anyone’s job.’His passionate, expletive-filled interview prompted presenter Gabby Logan to apologise for his language.
