Arsenal Player Ratings: Captain Odegaard leads team to narrow win over Hull

Share:

Arsenal strengthened their position at the summit of the Premier League after pulling off a hard-fought 1–0 victory over a resilient Hull City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners controlled the tempo for large stretches but struggled to break down Hull’s compact defensive setup. A contentious first-half penalty call involving Kai Havertz was ultimately chalked off for offside following a VAR review, leaving the hosts frustrated heading into the break.

The decisive moment came late in the second half when Noni Madueke’s low drive was parried into danger by Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, allowing captain Martin Ødegaard to pounce on the rebound and tap home the game’s sole goal.

Player Ratings

David Raya (6/10): Had a relatively quiet afternoon, though he reacted sharply to deny a dangerous low cross from Elliot Stroud.

Jurriën Timber (5/10): An uncharacteristically subdued outing from the right-back, struggling to influence play effectively.

Ezri Konsa (7/10): Maintained his strong form since joining the club, handling Hull’s physical frontline with composure.

Gabriel Magalhães (7/10): Aside from a rare loss of possession in midfield, he provided his usual commanding presence at the back.

Riccardo Calafiori (6/10): Solid in his defensive duties, though less adventurous going forward than usual.

Declan Rice (6/10): Came closest to scoring in the opening period with a long-range shot before being withdrawn to add offensive spark.

Bruno Guimarães (6/10): Worked hard in the center, though he still appears to be building toward peak match sharpness.

Martin Ødegaard (8/10) — Star Player: The focal point of Arsenal’s attack. Injected urgency into the team’s forward movement and was rewarded with the crucial match-winner.

Christos Tzolis (5/10): Showed plenty of stamina and work rate on the wing, but lacked clinical execution in key moments.

Noni Madueke (7/10): Arsenal’s primary threat alongside Ødegaard. His aggressive running paid off when his initial attempt created the decisive rebound.

Kai Havertz (4/10): Had a tough day leading the line; hesitated in a prime shooting position and failed to make an impact before being replaced.

Substitutes

Viktor Gyökeres (5/10): Replaced Havertz past the hour mark but found little joy against Hull’s deep defensive line.

Mikel Merino (6/10): Brought composure and control to the engine room after coming on for Rice.

Eberechi Eze (6/10): Introduced energy and creative spark down the flanks for the final 20 minutes.

Piero Hincapié (6/10): Offered an overlapping threat down the left side after replacing Calafiori.

Martín Zubimendi (N/A): Late tactical substitution.
