Aramco building in Riyadh damaged as Houthi missiles are intercepted
Missile fire over Riyadh has damaged a Saudi Aramco tower, and Saudi authorities have not blamed the Houthis, who say they hit the financial district.
A Saudi Aramco administrative building in Riyadh sustained some damage from falling shrapnel after an attempted attack on Sunday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said, Gazette reports.
The ministry said there were no injuries or deaths and the damage was limited. It did not say who was responsible. Reuters, citing a witness, reported that windows were blown out across several floors of Aramco Tower in the King Abdullah Financial District.
The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted Houthi missiles over Riyadh early on Sunday. The Houthis claimed they targeted the city’s financial district, but Saudi authorities did not directly attribute the damage to the group.
The incident comes amid renewed fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which resumed in July. The Houthis have since launched missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities, and Saudi Arabia has carried out air strikes in Yemen.
Aramco’s headquarters complex in Dhahran was attacked on October 13. Saudi authorities reported a limited fire and no casualties, but Reuters later quoted people with knowledge of the incident saying the complex suffered extensive damage.
