AI throws the book publishing industry into chaos
The book publishing industry is facing a growing crisis over suspected AI-generated content, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The report highlights the case of author Jerry Falade’s crime novel, “Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body,” after his literary agency, Europa Content, withdrew support for a multimillion-dollar book deal, citing an inability to verify the manuscript was wholly written by the author.
The agency said the incident raises deeper questions about authorship in an AI era. The development is part of a broader reckoning within publishing over creativity, trust and verification.
