Andy Burnham, UK prime minister, loses father at 86
Roy Burnham, father of UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, has died at 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. According to Peoples Gazette, the death forced Mr Burnham to cancel engagements scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, including his planned appearance at the TUC conference in Brighton.
The prime minister had previously said his father’s condition meant he was unaware his son was about to assume the role. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch extended condolences, describing the loss of a parent as a profoundly painful experience. Mr Burnham, who has spoken about improving social care, praised the skill and professionalism of care workers who supported his father.
