Carnegie Mellon Republicans call for Uju Anya’s dismissal from university
Carnegie Mellon University’s College Republicans chapter is calling for the dismissal of associate professor Uju Anya over social media posts they describe as violent rhetoric.
According to Peoples Gazette, the group said in a September 13 statement that Anya’s “voluntary professional leave” does not adequately address concerns raised by her conduct, following a post in which she wrote, “Die first, White man and ask yourself why I’m dancing.”
The statement argued her comments were inconsistent with expectations of civility for faculty. Anya, a Nigerian-American scholar of Igbo origin who teaches race studies at the university, has previously drawn criticism for controversial remarks about public figures, including Queen Elizabeth II and Rush Limbaugh.
