Appeal Court affirms 490-year sentence of ex-NEXIM Bank boss
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the conviction and 490-year jail sentence imposed on former NEXIM Bank Managing Director, Robert Orya, over 49 counts of fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as reported by Sahara Reporters, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. Orya was convicted by the Federal Capital Territory High Court on February 5, 2026, after being found guilty of obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and advance fee fraud involving N2.4 billion.
The EFCC said the appellate court affirmed the conviction after the prosecution called seven witnesses and proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. Orya was arraigned in 2021.
