Arteta sends ‘Set-Piece FC’ warning as Arsenal target more open-play goals
Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal are beginning to shed their “Set-Piece FC” reputation as the Premier League champions target a more dynamic attacking identity this season. Arsenal were frequently labelled set-piece specialists during their title-winning campaign because of their effectiveness from corners and other dead-ball situations.
However, their opening three league victories have produced a notable change, with every goal coming from open play. Arteta wants that development to continue, insisting his players must combine greater flair with improved efficiency and maintain the control that has characterised their strong start.
The Arsenal boss acknowledged that execution and the quality of opposition can influence their attacking output but stressed that becoming more dominant and unpredictable remains the objective. With Arsenal preparing to face Sunderland, Arteta’s comments suggest the champions are determined to prove they are far more than a team that relies on set pieces. According to GOAL, the manager sees attacking evolution as a key part of Arsenal’s next step.
