‘As obvious as it gets’: Carrick blasts VAR over Haaland’s derby winner
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has criticised VAR after Erling Haaland’s controversial goal secured Manchester City a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford. Haaland struck in the 60th minute after Joško Gvardiol’s cross deflected off Patrick Dorgu before passing through Enzo Fernández and Lisandro Martínez, with Fernández appearing to interfere while in an offside position.
According to The Irish Times, the goal was initially ruled out for offside before VAR overturned the decision, leaving Carrick frustrated. He argued that Fernández’s movement forced Martínez to react and questioned how the officials could decide there was no interference. “It’s pretty obvious. It’s as obvious as it gets,” Carrick said. City moved to 12 points, while United remain on four.
