Aston Villa threaten legal action against Carragher over Man United comments
Aston Villa have announced their intention to initiate legal action against Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher following an explosive debate regarding Manchester United’s managerial situation, according to a report by Football360.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Carragher suggested Villa manager Unai Emery should be interested in replacing Michael Carrick at Old Trafford amid United’s poor form.
Addressing Villa supporters’ backlash, Carragher stated: “And there will be teams below Aston Villa, and they’ll take their players or manager, so shut the [expletive] up Aston Villa fans. Aston Villa will never be Manchester United.”
In response, Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris released a statement declaring: “Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for his unacceptable insults about the Club and its fans. Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football.”
Carragher later clarified his comments were made in jest following online friction with fans.
