Brazilian President to Trump: You don’t have the right to govern other nations

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has criticised US President Donald Trump’s approach to international relations, saying Washington cannot impose its will on other sovereign nations.

Vanguard reports that Lula made the remarks during an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Lula said Trump was elected to govern the United States, not other countries, and urged him to embrace negotiations instead of imposing American rules abroad.

The Brazilian leader also criticised US tariffs on Brazilian goods, describing Washington’s justification as based on “lies.”

Lula said Brazil was strengthening trade relationships with China, Japan, Germany and the European Union while negotiations with Washington continue to resolve the tariff dispute.
