Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the tragic death of a 72-year-old supporter who fell ill after the club’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Sunday. The fan, whose identity has not been released, became unwell as he was leaving the Amex Stadium to board a supporters’ club bus in the coach park .

Despite the immediate efforts of emergency services, stadium staff, and prolonged CPR at the scene, the man could not be revived . The club issued a statement extending “sincere condolences to the gentleman’s family and friends.”

Chief Executive Paul Barber expressed the club’s deep shock, saying, “What should have been an ordinary and happy journey home ended in heartbreaking circumstances” .

A multi-agency response, including South East Coast Ambulance Service, St John’s Ambulance, and Sussex Police, worked to provide the best possible care. The victory on the pitch was overshadowed by the tragic loss of a lifelong fan.
