Canada reveals new $20 note with King Charles III portrait

Canada has unveiled a $20 banknote featuring King Charles III, making him the first new monarch on a Canadian banknote in more than 70 years.

According to the BBC, the vertical polymer note was revealed by the Bank of Canada on Thursday and will enter circulation early next year.

The front features King Charles surrounded by floral and leafy designs inspired by his environmental advocacy, while the reverse depicts the Vimy Ridge memorial in France.

Canada becomes the first Commonwealth country outside Britain to feature Charles on a banknote since his accession.

The bill is Canada’s second vertical banknote, following the $10 note featuring civil rights advocate Viola Desmond. Design elements were selected after consultation with an Indigenous advisory council.
