CAR, DRC, Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan unite to stop Bundibugyo Ebola

Five African nations—the Central African Republic, DR Congo, Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan—have agreed to strengthen cross-border preparedness against the Bundibugyo Ebola strain, according to Peoples Gazette. The agreement, reached in Bangui on Wednesday with WHO support, followed a briefing on the outbreak.

WHO Africa’s Mohamed Jamaica said “viruses do not recognise borders,” urging shared response. Officials from each country pledged collaboration, training and resource-sharing. WHO’s Marie-Roseline Belizaire noted children under five face the highest fatality rate at 69.5%, while the outbreak is worsened by poor access to clean water, healthcare and food in affected zones.
