Chawinga sisters fire Malawi into historic WAFCON final
Malawi reached their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final after defeating Algeria 3-1 in Rabat, continuing their remarkable run at the 2026 tournament. According to the BBC, Tabitha Chawinga scored twice while her sister Temwa added another as the Scorchers overcame Algeria in a dramatic semi-final.
Tabitha opened the scoring with an acrobatic overhead kick before Temwa doubled Malawi’s advantage in first-half stoppage time. Ikram Adjabi pulled one back for Algeria, but Tabitha struck again to seal victory. Malawi, the tournament’s lowest-ranked team, will face either Morocco or Cameroon in Sunday’s final.
