De Zerbi explains Fernandes snub as Tottenham star Tel faces blunt criticism

According to TEAMtalk, Roberto De Zerbi has explained why £85 million signing Mateus Fernandes was left on the bench during Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest. The Portugal midfielder, who started Tottenham’s first two Premier League matches in the No.10 role, was introduced only in the 83rd minute as Conor Gallagher was preferred from the start.

De Zerbi said Gallagher’s experience suited the physical demands of the City Ground. The Spurs boss also criticised Mathys Tel after the winger struggled against Forest, completing just one of five attempted dribbles. De Zerbi said Tel has significant potential but needs to make better decisions, while Mykhailo Mudryk is still building fitness.
