Eagle Online founder Dotun Oladipo dies at 56

Dotun Oladipo, founder and managing editor of Eagle Online and a towering figure in Nigerian digital journalism, has died at the age of 56 after suddenly taking ill in his Lagos office on Tuesday and dying hours later at the hospital.

As reported by TheCable, his death was confirmed by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, of which he was a former president. GOCOP president Danlami Nmodu announced the passing on the guild’s WhatsApp platform, writing: “It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today.”

Oladipo — CEO of Premium Eagle Media Limited and founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society — had a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades, including a stint as politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers.

IMPCMS General Secretary Nkanu Egbe described his passing as “a devastating loss not only to IMPCMS but to Nigerian journalism as a whole.”
