Edo retirees protest N7,000 pension

Retired Edo State civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme staged a peaceful protest at the State House of Assembly on Tuesday, demanding to be exited from a scheme that has left many receiving as little as N7,000 to N10,000 monthly after decades of public service.

Group Chairman Andrew Asemota, who disclosed he personally receives N45,000 after 35 years of service, said many colleagues were far worse off. “Many pensioners are receiving as low as N7,000 and N10,000,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that protesters carried placards reading “CPS is evil” and “Mr Governor, save our soul.” House of Assembly Speaker Yekini Idaiye promised to relay their grievances to Governor Monday Okpebholo for prompt action.
