EPL: Real reason Arsenal lost 3-0 to Brighton – Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has blamed a string of technical errors for his team’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday — a result that ended the champions’ winning start to the season and delivered a sobering reminder of the standards required to remain at the top of English football.

According to PM News, goals from Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas put Brighton 2-0 ahead before half-time at the Amex Stadium, with Chema Andres adding a third after the break to complete a thoroughly dominant performance by the hosts.

“I am really disappointed. In the first 20 or 30 minutes, the number of technical errors put us constantly under pressure. It was all related to the start,” Arteta told Match of the Day.

Despite acknowledging Arsenal’s impressive form since the World Cup, the Spaniard was unsparing in his assessment of Saturday’s display.

“It’s a big lesson to learn. What the team has done since the World Cup has been remarkable. But today there is a lot to learn,” he said.

Arteta also credited Brighton for capitalising on Arsenal’s below-par performance. “Credit to Brighton for what they have done. I think we were very far from our level,” he added, warning that “in any game, you can get highly exposed if you don’t do what you need to do.”

The defeat arrives ahead of the international break, giving Arsenal time to reflect before resuming their Premier League campaign.
