Falconets suffer 2-0 defeat to Spain in U-20 Women’s World Cup opener
Nigeria’s Falconets suffered a disappointing start to their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign after losing 2-0 to Spain in their Group F opener. According to Daily Post Nigeria, Spain controlled proceedings for much of the encounter and took the lead through Marisa Garcia in the 13th minute. Nigeria struggled to create sustained attacking pressure but remained competitive enough to prevent Spain from extending their advantage before halftime.
The former champions continued to dictate the game after the restart, with Alba Cerrato eventually doubling their lead 17 minutes from full-time. Moses Aduku’s side will now turn their attention to Thursday’s meeting with China PR, where the Falconets will hope to secure their first points of the tournament. Spain next face debutants New Caledonia.
