FBI investigates mass sale of driving licences on dark web

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating reports that over 150 million U.S. and Canadian driving licences are being sold on a dark web marketplace.

According to Peoples Gazette, citing Reuters, the FBI confirmed it was “looking into the incident” but declined further comment due to the ongoing probe.

Investigative journalist Brian Krebs uncovered the platform, named Nexus, after his own licence was posted as a free sample on a Russian cybercrime forum.

He further found that the data included records belonging to several high-ranking officials, including U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, with the site reportedly updating stolen data in real time.

Krebs traced one compromised licence to a Las Vegas dispensary using IDScan.net, though the identity-verification firm said the breach’s origin remains unconfirmed
