Finance minister: Nigeria’s economy now stabilised
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele declared that Nigeria’s economy has stabilised, according to a report by Tribune Online, speaking after the 160th National Economic Council meeting. He cited GDP growth of 3.89% in Q1 2026, inflation down to 15.43%, external reserves at $51.96 billion, and the naira appreciating 13.5% year-on-year.
Oyedele noted Nigeria’s exit from the FATF grey list and its reclassification as a frontier market by FTSE Russell. However, he cautioned against “reform fatigue” and policy reversals ahead of 2027, urging all government levels to maintain fiscal discipline to preserve gains achieved over three years.
