Trump signs executive order renaming Lake Ontario ‘Lake America’

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America” for US geographic purposes, according to a report by The Associated Press.

The move, which Canada is not obligated to follow, comes amid escalating trade tensions after the US imposed 50% tariffs on $20 billion of Canadian goods, prompting Canadian retaliatory tariffs on steel, dairy and farm equipment.

Trump signed the order at the Resolute Desk beside a map reading “Lake America,” calling Canada “the worst” to deal with on trade. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
