Fuel subsidy: Melaye alleges Tinubu gave governors money in return for votes

Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has accused President Bola Tinubu of allocating fuel subsidy funds to state governors in exchange for their votes and support ahead of 2027, according to a report by Daily Post Nigeria.

In a post on X, Melaye alleged Tinubu diverted subsidy proceeds to governors, adding that with the election approaching and governors unable to guarantee his victory, Tinubu was now appealing directly to Nigerians.

His comments come amid renewed debate over the 2023 subsidy removal, after ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar pledged to reinstate the subsidy if elected president in 2027.
