From Oronsaye to opposite: How Tinubu abandoned streamlining promise, added N1.13trn in new agencies

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has added at least N1.13 trillion to Nigeria’s governance costs through the creation of six new ministries and five regional development commissions — a stark reversal of his earlier commitment to implementing the Stephen Oronsaye Report on streamlining federal agencies.

As reported by The Guardian Nigeria, allocations include N149.2 billion for the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, N81.19 billion for Livestock Development and a combined N705.61 billion for four new regional development commissions covering the North-West, South-West, South-East, South-South and North-Central zones.

The expansion coincides with ongoing investigations into phantom agencies — including the PFIPC and the National Brands Development Office — while agencies marked for abolition under the Oronsaye Report continue receiving billions in annual allocations, compounding what critics describe as Nigeria’s increasingly unsustainable big-government philosophy.
